The internationally recognised biodynamic agricultural system functions by developing soils, plants, water and animals within the natural order. No chemicals, synthetic fertilisers, hormones, antibiotics, meat meal (animal by-products) or genetic engineering are used to upset the natural balance. All products are hormone growth promotant free.
Animals are not confined in pens but are rotationally grazed "Free Range" on the vast, natural pastures.
Bio-dynamics is an enhanced organic method. Within this system, fertile,
totally natural, biologically active soils are formed and the foods produced
are natural products. Biodynamic Certification is controlled by the Biodynamic
Research Institute which is an Australian Government Accredited Certifying
Organisation. This means that when food or fibre is sold under the biodynamic,
Demeter certification, it meets the highest standards of integrity and
assurance of natural production.
The Biodynamic Agricultural SystemBiodynamic Agriculture is an enhanced Organic system. It develops biologically active top soils of increasing depth and natural fertility so that the plants feed from humus and not from artificially introduced water soluble fertilisers. The result is the balanced production of food grown 'within the order of nature.' Improved soil structure combined with deep rooted and perennial plants ensure maximum use of available soil moisture. This, combined with the fact that no synthetics are used, ensures that everything possible is done to stop run off and the pollution of ground waters and rivers. Animals are
rotationally grazed Free Range in open paddocks or fields all year round
with no confinement in sheds or feed yards. The
required levels of personal integrity and commitment to the Biodynamic
method of agriculture are demonstrated.
The
biological and structural development of the soil show continual improvement
from the time of conversion to Biodynamics. This is done with the use
of the biodynamic preparations and, where required, approved cultivation
methods, along with general farm management conducive to the working of
the biodynamic preparations.
Livestock benefit from these conditions and develop slowly to the desired quality finish. All products are hormone growth promotant free. The feeding of animal by-products (for example meat meal) is not permitted. Supplementary feeding methods include the use of silage, crop residues and grain by-products. These are produced, either on the relevant far or on other Demeter Certified Farms, Feed sources from conventional farms is not permitted under the Australian "national standard for Organic and Biodynamic produce." Supplementation of basic mineral elements, depending on the severity of seasonal conditions, is offered "free Choice". Livestock are managed to allow them to perform to their own genetic capacity and force feeding or artificial conditions It is not claimed that Australian certified Biodynamic meat is chemically free because there are background levels of man made chemicals even in the polar ice caps. Random samples testing of meat (fat) is carried out for chemical residues. Abattoirs and packing points used meet the Australian Export and Importing country requirements, and are also Certified by the biodynamic research Institute. Australian Certified Biodynamic Produced would be the most ecologically responsible Agricultural land use on earth. |
